Serves 4
Time: approx. 20 minutes
French Toast:
- 4 slices white bread (preferably day-old)
- 3 eggs
- 2 dl milk (3%)
- ¼ tsk salt
- butter for cooking
Creamy Gruyère:
- 50 g Le Gruyère AOP Mild
- 100 g cream cheese
- 1 dl heavy cream
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- a pinch of sea salt
For serving:
- 4 – 6 tbsp lemon curd
- 1 tbsp poppy seeds
- lemon zest
Preparation:
- Prepare the creamy Gruyère mixture by finely grating the cheese.
- Combine the cheese with the remaining ingredients until creamy.
- Whisk eggs, milk and salt in a medium bowl for the French toast.
- Dip a slice of bread in the egg-milk mixture and flip to coat both sides. Heat butter in a skillet. Place bread in the skillet and cook over medium heat for about 2 minutes on both sides until golden brown.
- Serve with a dollop of creamy Gruyère and lemon curd. Garnish with poppy seeds and lemon zest.
An easy to make and delicious brunch dish served with a lovely creamy Gruyére topping – crispy, salty and sweet with a lemony freshness.
